What is the difference between PCTG TX1001 and SK YF300?
Both of these materials are PCTG materials. PCTG is a transparent plastic and an amorphous copolyester. The commonly used comonomer of PCTG is 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol (CHDM). Its full name is poly(ethylene terephthalate-1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol). It is produced by the polycondensation of three monomers—terephthalic acid (PTA), ethylene glycol (EG), and 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol (CHDM)—via a transesterification process. Compared with PET, it contains an additional 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol comonomer, and compared with PCT, it contains an additional ethylene glycol comonomer. Therefore, the properties of PCTG are quite different from those of PET and PCT. PCTG is a non-crystalline copolyester. As the CHDM content in the copolymer increases, the melting point decreases, the glass transition temperature increases, and the crystallinity decreases, eventually forming an amorphous polymer. The CHDM content in PCTG is greater than 50%.
First, let’s talk about SK YF300. This material is produced by SK Chemicals of South Korea and is a highly environmentally friendly material with a food-grade environmental rating. It can withstand temperatures up to 95°C and features good adhesion, transparency, color performance, chemical resistance, and resistance to stress whitening. It can be rapidly thermoformed or processed by extrusion blow molding. It also offers excellent weather resistance, corrosion resistance, and impact resistance.
TX1001 is a PCTG material produced by Eastman in the United States. Its performance is slightly better than that of SK YF300, with a heat resistance of up to 100°C. Of course, its price is also about 30% higher than that of SK YF300.
